The Bible distribution ministry provides Bibles to new believers and their families.
We collaborate with the Bible National Society to acquire Bibles in various languages for distribution to new believers.
Myanmar has a population of about 57 million, with Buddhism practiced by 89.3 percent of the population. Christianity accounts for 5.6 percent, Islam for 3.8 percent, Hinduism for 0.5 percent, and Animism for 0.2 percent. The country is home to 135 ethnic groups, also referred to as "National Races," and approximately 200 languages are spoken. The major ethnic groups include the Kachin, Kayin, Chin, Bamar (Myanmar), Mon, Rakhine, and Shan. Myanmar language (formerly Burmese) is the official language, spoken by about 70% of the population as a first language.
A 2010 survey revealed that the Scriptures (Bible, New Testament, and Portions) have been translated into nearly 65 languages. Many of the orthographic systems were developed by Western missionaries, who also translated some of the Bibles. With the significant growth of churches among ethnic groups, there is a high demand for new Bible translations.
To address the needs of Christians from ethnic minority groups, pastors, and Bible schools, the Bible Society of Myanmar is seeking ways to publish newly translated New Testaments, Bibles, revisions, and study Bibles.
